It seems like we can hardly remember the last dolphin trip that had sunny skies & calm seas. We readily admit that we are completely spoiled here in Bimini, but that doesn’t make us any less grateful to have the nice weather back! We had a big group on the boat today, but that was okay because we had a big group of dolphins as well! Here’s the rundown of those we recognized (for all of you adoptive parents out there!): Buster (#04), Juliette (#12), Tina (#14), Lil’

How do days go so quickly?
Darcie spent the afternoon posing with her fiancé while Kel was behind the camera taking some photos for Bimini Undersea. They looked so cute! Then some pictures without the snorkel gear, as engagement photos for them. We then were treated to a fabulous dinner at Big Game’s fancy restaurant. Yum. Trips #37, 38 & 39 are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. The weather was actually great today, so hopefully that will continue! Until then, Kel &
Can you say advanced SCUBA divers?
Today Darcie & I completed our advanced diver certifications courtesy of former DCP researcher, Kathy DeStefano (now dive instructor extraordinaire). Our first dive was a deep wreck (Bimini Barge), Kel’s personal favorite in the area. Next on the list was a navigation dive, which we completed at “The Strip.” It was great! The rainy evening was spent indoors…please go away rain! Until next time, Kel &
More swim camp
Today marked the final day of swim camp….and we were able to get in the water with the kids. It has been so great to be a part of this- getting to know some of the kids & watching them make amazing progress with comfort & skill in the water. They should all be very proud of themselves! We then raced home for our phone call that couldn’t happen because our phone is still out of service. So, it was some data entry as we watched the weather &
Rain, rain, go away!
Swim camp was cancelled this morning, but not until after we waited all morning to see if the weather would clear. Darcie jetted off to do a quick dive at Turtle Rocks before our afternoon dolphin trip. Our boat captain did a great job of steering us clear of the scattered squalls, but no one could have kept us dry once the 4 separate rain pockets joined forces, creating 1 major storm. We made it back to the dock safely, hung out with passengers for a bit & then headed out to a FABULOUS group dinner.
Trip #35!
Today was a great day in part because the dolphins showed up early & close to the island, which allowed us to get home before some stormy weather hit the island. We observed a group of 12 spotteds, which included at least 6 calves! We were able to get in the water for a bit & visibility was amazing- yay! We don’t think we’ve ever been in the water with 6 calves at once; it was very cool. Romeo (#10), Juliette (#12), Stefran (#82) & un-named #81 &
Pea Soup!
Today again began with swim camp & we had a great time with a group of 4-7 year olds who are just getting the basics. Then, a quick stop home before heading to our weekly presentation. The group had some great questions & as always we hope we provided some insights & enhancement to their… Continue reading Pea Soup!
Are we the stars of a nature show!??
Today was busy! Most days are feeling like that lately, but we don’t mind. We were up bright & early this morning- Darcie off to keep John company during his first SCUBA class & Kel to volunteer at a swim camp being offered this week. Bahamian children are absolutely adorable, but are surprisingly inexperienced in & around the water. We’re happy to lend a hand each morning this week & hope that it will help the kids increase their awareness &
Odds & Ends, Meet & Greet, Dolphin Trip
This morning was filled with some random tasks that needed to get done like paying bills & cleaning the house. Exciting, huh? Don’t worry, this field report gets better….. At 14:00 we all gathered for the week’s Meet & Greet. We have a group of 4 passengers who will be with us all week & I’m sure they’ll be great fun. Throughout the week we’ll also have additional day passengers. The boat departed at 15:30 & the trip began with a snorkel stop at Rainbow Reef. Next:
Dolphin Free Day
Ah, an entire day off! I don’t even think I checked my email! Kath & I went out for a bit on a friend’s boat & I basically did nothing. It was great! Then it was dinner & movie night with some other friends…. Tomorrow begins the new dolphin week & Darcie returns. Yay!
