Help fund our research expedition

DCP needs your help! We are looking for science-fans to help fund our research expedition to the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences (RIMS). We are investigating the nature of dolphin friendships, and need help transporting our equipment and researchers to RIMS where we’ll record the dolphins’ behavior and try to figure out how and why dolphins choose their friends. Any contribution would be an enormous help, and we’re offering some cool rewards to our supporters.

Gazette 17.1 is here!

The latest issue of the Dolphin Gazette is here! In it, we share stories of our January data collection at Dolphin Encounters, provide updates on upcoming opportunities to join us in the field, announce our haiku contest and more! As usual it is packed with dolphin photos too! We hope you enjoy reading this issue and share it with your friends.

Job Opportunities

The Dolphin Communication Project does not have any vacancies or job opportunities available at present. We often receive queries from people interested in working with us, and many are surprised to learn that DCP is run almost exclusively by volunteers. Our core team consists of our Director, Kathleen Dudzinski, Research Associate and Bimini Research Manager, Kelly Melillo-Sweeting, and our Senior Research Associate (and web guru) Justin Gregg.

ID#094 is the female offspring of White Blotch (#29). ID#094, affectionately called, “Little Dot,” has the distinction of being the wild Bimini dolphin whose birthday is almost known. We observed her mother pregnant in July 2004. Less than 3 weeks later, we saw #094! Of course, we could not add #094 to our photo-ID catalog until she developed her first spots.
