Last Full Day at AKR/RIMS for DCP’s May Ecotour

Our day began with data collection – HURRAY! We mixed things up a bit for the dolphins with Manon collecting underwater video. We had Rocky and Buzz playing with each other including mouthing and pushing each other. Gracie and Alita were sharing a long pectoral fin contact exchange. Gizmo used the rub rope often as did Champ and Stan in synchronous form. We collected LOTS of video and interactions.

Some of our group did the morning snorkel and others did the morning dives while Kathleen returned to Baileys in hopes that Rocky and Tank would ignore her fins. A second data collection session was completed with the mom/calf pairs in the main lagoon. The older males had training sessions in the back pools. It was a relaxed session observing Bailey with Georgie and Lightning swimming by also. (Bailey with Lightning is the feature photo.) Gracie and Trixie were social with each other and Buzz was with his mom, Alita, in infant swim.

The snorkel boat went to West Bay where a Hawksbill sea turtle and two eagle rays were observed and hung out with our swimmers.

To wrap up the week – everyone had good adventures at sea with many creatures including sea turtles, squid, and lots of fish. And, the Odyssey was the wreck dive this morning to end on a high note! We collected about 5 hours of video data with the MVA and GoPros and saw lots of neat behavior.

Our change over in groups happens tomorrow. But we will collect data in the morning! Woohoo!

Cheers
