Yet another boat trip this morning. What a run I am having! I worked on some video ID this afternoon and managed to identify another one of this year’s new mothers (Omizu-chan) from video recorded on June 2nd. This brings the total up to 4 new calves with 3 identified mothers, and 1 mother that we still can’t ID. So without further ado, here is this year’s mother/calf lineup:
#081 – Hai-chan: first recorded with her neonate on May 13th
#052 – Madam Butterfly: first recorded with her neonate on May 23rd
#066 – Omizu-chan: first recorded with her neonate on June 2nd
Mysterious mom – ??: first recorded with her neonate on May 18
Most likely a few more calves will be born this summer. Each year tends to produce about 10 new calves. Everyone gets very exited by the new claves (including me of course)! I will surely keep you up to date as new calves come along. I suspect that my old friend #309 (Sekapun) is also pregnant, so perhaps she will deliver us a new calf soon! Although she might just be ‘eating well’ – I won’t risk it by asking her when she is due. That is a question best left unasked unless you are absolutely sure…
