Buc-ees!

It’s not only about dolphins this week but an added beaver or 2 or 6! … at least, in the wardrobe of some of the guys in our group. It seems that Don, David, Tony, Charles, and Bill had the urge to copy Alson’s style choices! They never did tell us what the fish thought of their shorts. See the featured photo for their modeling shot!

Our AM data collection went very well, and we had several playful, social dolphins and observations. Gizmo had her fair share of seagrass Object Play this morning (lower, left). Thankfully Tony has very long arms and was able to capture most of us in the group shot while riding the water taxi to Bailey’s for the AM data collection session.

There was much in-water activity today – another dolphin swim for Manon, Christine, Lauranne, and Charles. The dolphins were very social, though Gracie and Bailey seemed at odds this morning … for reasons unknown! Also, the sea turtle talk from Jen yesterday was lucky and the snorkelers saw a sea turtle and eagle ray on the morning snorkel. And, the afternoon divers got a good and close glimpse of a group of about 20 spinner dolphins. They even rode the bow wave!

Alson (aka Latta) decorated his motorbike with DCP stickers, showing exactly how much he supports our research and programs and that he loves our new stickers! Alson’s motorbike is DCP’s honorary transport mode/mascot on Roatan!

And, we wrapped up the day with a presentation by Manon and Kathleen about DCP’s dolphin research mostly at RIMS but also in comparison to the dolphins in Bahamas, Japan, Norway, and at both SeaWorld and Loro Parque. We were so pleased that the RIMS training team joined us as well as some of the other AKR guests.

We look forward to another full day tomorrow, our last full day on Roatan at AKR.

Cheers
