Miyake's Oyama has not erupted …
The residents of two of the five towns on Miyake have been evacuated to other areas on the island. There has been no lava forth-coming, however, from 6 PM on Monday night till about 11:30 AM on Tuesday (6/27) there were more than 2,500 earthquakes! No new news … maybe on tonight's news programs. Regarding dolphins: We have made a few identifications … remember that aggressive interaction we witnessed and documented on 17 June? (If not … you can take a peak!) Well it was two adult males (#014 and #011) who were biting and attacking a sub-adult female (#028). We used video from two different angles to identify these individuals. The action was fast and the sounds interesting. I look forward to digitizing this data in the fall to examine the sounds. More tomorrow. We hope to have a boat trip to observe dolphins tomorrow (Wed). Will keep you posted. Cheers Kathleen
