All of us spent a good chunk of the day in the water. Our morning data collection included a sequence with Georgie, Kami, and Gizmo all about Poli and focused on the MVA and Kathleen’s mask. Kami seems to like to target on our masks while Gizmo pulls at our braids and Georgie watches and takes it all in.
After AM dolphin data collection, which actually was a bit shorter than usual thanks to Stan and Buzz paying more attention to Kathleen’s fins than each other, we had a quick breakfast and then departed to our respect wreck visits. Yes! The divers went to see the Odyssey while the snorkelers traveled 45 min to the NE side of Roatan to see a wreck in the shallows (Shipwreck in Pristine Bay). Each of us had a delightful underwater session. The snorkelers met Ramona the Remora (feature photo). This not-so-little remora checked all of us out … looking for a piece of skin to attach to? But none of us were good enough!
Also, on the snorkel, Manon got good photos of a spotted eagle ray and Marianne took a cool photo of the mangroves. We passed by a thick swath of mangroves along the boat ride to our snorkel spot.
We had a slow afternoon with some downtime. The Duda family spied on their tiny mammal neighbors, bats. They hang out in the eaves of their cabins and keep to themselves mostly.
Tonight is Fiesta night and the space around the gazebo on Anthony’s Key has been rearranged but works well. The BBQ is still exceptionally yummy and the games and ambiance are entertaining.
Lastly, we share a Happy Birthday to DCP’s Justin Gregg! We brought his most recent book to the field for our (minimal) downtime … and have had a couple of laughs and conversations about Nietzsche. We highly recommend it for a good read … and in September, Justin’s new book “Humanish” will be available.
Tomorrow is our groups own dolphin encounter and swim … we wonder who they will meet!?
Cheers
