The relationship between a bottlenose dolphin mother and her calf is vital for the survival of the young, but many of the details are yet to be fully understood. In this Deep Dive, DCP’s Savanna Duda explores the physical contacts that are shared between these individuals and suggests explanations for the patterns found in DCP’s recent study.
Savanna Duda is a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University getting her master’s in marine science. Her current research focus, in collaboration with DCP, is on how dolphin calves interact in a tactile manner with all dolphins of different relation.
This Deep Dive is geared toward ages 14+, but all are welcome.
