Today was CSU’s departure but because we (Kathleen and Manon) have a few more days at AKR, we were able to get another data collection session in. It was a day of dolphin zoomies! Everyone was full of energy and zooming around the main lagoon, as evidenced in the drone footage. The dolphins from Kathleen’s perspective had ZERO personal space and were pushing on her legs, fins, the GoPros, and the MVA all too often this morning.
After data collection, the CSU group had breakfast and some last-minute packing before waiting for the shuttle bus to the airport.
Kathleen and Manon’s afternoon was spent first doing a trash pick-up near and around our cabin on Anthony’s Key. Manon found a blue nemo to play with both Blamy 1 and Blamy 2 (feature photo). The later afternoon was spent at Bailey’s Key observing the dolphins. It was a slow afternoon with no programs, but we chatted with the trainers and observed the last session. We also spent a bit of time sitting on the porch watching 2-3 eagle rays either forage or socialize in the shallow water near our porch while the sun dropped in the western horizon.
We have another data collection session tomorrow morning but will plan for a slightly later time.
Cheers
Kathleen & Manon
