Roughly one-third of the entire population
Today we provided passengers with the casual presentation, elaborating on the information they had already been given about the dolphins. Each week, this presentation takes different turns, dictated by the passenger needs and enthusiasm. Today was a great one!
Today also marks our 21st trip of the season, which is pretty good considering the fact that dolphin trips have not been as consistent as usual. This is due to a combination of factors: Bookings on Bimini Undersea are down and weather has been surprisingly rough for this time of year.
None of that mattered today though, as we had quite possibly a third of the entire Bimini spotted dolphin population within close proximity to our boat! A conservative count was 30 dolphins in the area of our boat. Identified animals included: #09 (Finn), #10 (Romeo), #14 (Tina), #17 (Lumpy), #25, #29 (White Blotch), possibly #29’s calf, #35 (Lil’ Jess), #36 (Swoosh), #76 (Nemo) and #81. We entered the water twice, but we will have to wait and see what the video looks like, since, once again, visibility was poor. Trips again on Tuesday and Wednesday!
Until then,
Kel and Darcie
