A brief history between Pine Point and DCP
Pine Point School (Connecticut) and DCP have become partners with cross-cultural efforts and educational programing stemming from current and ongoing scientific research. In 2000, DCP, through Dudzinski, began a relationship with the Mikura Island School focused on learning about dolphins, a program that included elements of DCP’s dolphin communication scientific studies and the historical links between Mikura and New Bedford. In 2004, the research offices of DCP moved to the Pine Point campus and students began studying as dolphin research trainees (DRT). In 2005, a representative from Pine Point joined DCP’s research team and met with the educational leadership of Mikura. As a result, we have now established a dynamic partnership between the two schools. In addition to sharing dolphin communication research, Pine Point and Mikura Island Schools will exchange students as part of their studies. Additional partnerships with international schools in Tokyo are presently being forged. At Pine Point, an after-school class for lower school students among area schools now introduces them to the elements of the on-going research with dolphin communication.
